Lahore: Asif Ali Zardari said he would not abandon the ruling coalition’s crucial ally, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
Zardari made the remarks amid social media claims that the PPP is “not happy” with the coalition government’s policies and will leave the ruling alliance under the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) before the elections.
According to sources, Bilawal’s party hoped to recover Punjab, the PPP’s stronghold.
“Neither deceived anyone nor will betray the PML-N,” the former president stated at a press conference in Lahore.
The PPP leader encouraged all political parties to sign an economic charter for a “better future” for the country.
I’ll sign an economic charter. He continued, “Economic charter needed.”
The former president advised them to collaborate for national success.
Zardari claimed Pakistan’s cash-strapped economy would hurt everyone.
He said the country needed trade, not charity. Trade should boost the economy.
Pakistan’s currency reserves barely cover one month’s imports. It wanted $1.1 billion disbursed in November, but the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has set conditions before disbursing any further funds.
Pakistan anticipated to propose a budget in line with programme objectives, revive the FX market, and reduce the $6 billion shortfall before the penultimate IMF board review before the conclusion of the $6.5 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF).
The former president stated they must work together for a better future and that people invest abroad due to “insecurity”.
He recalls asking the PTI chairman to sign the economy charter in parliament.
The PPP leader replied that the Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline will built shortly.
