10 PTI Workers, Including Amir Dogar, Detained in Multan

At least ten workers from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) political party were taken into custody by the police in Multan, Pakistan following a raid on the dera (guest house) of party leader Amir Dogar. The police were acting on allegations that the workers had caused disruptions outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) office, after getting into a scuffle with workers from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party.

At the time of the raid, former PTI Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Amir Dogar was present and demanded that he be arrested along with the other party workers. Dogar had not been previously arrested as it was believed that he was not involved in the disturbance outside the ECP office. However, when his workers were taken into custody, he declared to the police, “If my workers have been detained, I will also go with you.” The law enforcement officers complied and the arrested individuals were taken to a police station in Cantt.

In response to the arrests, PTI leader Farrukh Habib expressed his condemnation on Twitter. He stated: “Strongly condemn the arrest of Amir Dogar in Multan. The PDM [Pakistan Democratic Movement] should stop using dirty tactics and Amir Dogar should be released immediately.”
