Karachi: Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Memon has taken steps to reduce bird-aircraft collisions.

Memon formed a coordination committee under district Malir deputy commissioner supervision to fix the problem. To expedite this, a WhatsApp group with appropriate officials created. City officials revealed the news at a meeting.

Moreover, The commissioner said the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB), Cantonment Board Malir, and Civil Aviation Authority would communicate to handle any issues.

While, He stated that all institutions would coordinate bird control around the airport.

The port city’s commissioner proposed working with an agriculture university to control birds. The meeting also voted to remove airport rubbish.

Animal remains will not thrown or spread around the airport during Eid ul Adha.

Bird strikes are frequent yet dangerous for pilots.

The risk of major bird-jet collisions is low, yet deaths have occurred. The impacts kill birds and damage the plane in 65% of cases.

If birds get sucked into the engines, windscreen bird hits distracting and dangerous.

A bird hitting a fan blade during takeoff could transfer it onto another blade, causing a chain reaction of failures. Jet engines are particularly vulnerable.
