Lahore: A group of former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) state lawmakers who left the party after the chaos on May 9 have started a new group called “Democrats.”
Hashim Dogar, who used to be the home minister of Punjab and also left the party, is now in charge of this new group. He joined by Dr. Murad Raas, who was the minister of education.
Dr. Raas said that the group would keep its own identity and not join with any of the country’s larger political parties. Such as the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), the Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q). They will neither join new group put together by Jehangir Khan Tareen.
The group would not be listed with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the former minister said.
Several lawmakers, including big names like Dogar and Dr. Raas, have left the PTI, and some have also stopped being involved in politics.
“We never thought we’d leave the party,” Dr. Raas and other leaders like Pir Ahmad Khagga, Raja Yawar Kamal, and Chaudhry Adnan, who all left the PTI after Chairman Imran Khan’s arrest on May 9, said at the same time.
He said that the aides in Lahore to blame for the party’s current situation.
The former province minister said, “We don’t believe in the PTI’s violent politics.”
