LAHORE: Prime Minister’s Sports and Tourism Adviser Awn Chaudhry announced on Wednesday that Jahangir Tareen’s new party would called “Istehkam-e-Pakistan”.
Chaudhry, a close supporter of Tareen, stated that the former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader had finalised the party name.
Friday’s press conference is likely to reveal Tareen’s party name.
After the May 9 mayhem, Tareen, who was disqualified for life from the Supreme Court, became active.
Moreover, Imran Khan arrested at the Islamabad High Court on May 9. Khan’s followers stormed the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi and the Lahore Corps Commander’s House (Jinnah House) after his imprisonment.
PTI leaders fled after arrested under Maintenance of Public Order laws and imprisoned.
Tareen may launch a new party with many former ruling party defectors to capitalise on the big departure.
After a luncheon at Aleem Khan’s house for Tareen and his advisers, the news broke.
In 2017, the Supreme Court barred Tareen from politics for “dishonest” on a petition submitted by PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi.
After the 2018 elections, Tareen helped the PTI recruit independent legislators despite disqualified. His efforts helped Khan win the 2018 prime ministership.
While, Tareen and Aleem Khan’s ties with the PTI soured after taking power.
The former prime minister explained his disputes with both leaders in May 2022, saying they were seeking “illegal benefits from him.”
The PTI head, who was ousted in April 2018 by a vote of no-confidence, said in a podcast that he and both leaders disagreed because he ignored their requests.
The former premier claimed, “Aleem Khan expected me to legalise his 300-acre land near Ravi. From then on, they had issues.
Khan remarked, “Tareen stood with the biggest dacoits in the country.” When I authorised a sugar scandal investigation, Tareen and I disagreed.”
