Webdesk: Hit series The Bear’s culinary producer Courtney Storer helped the show’s authenticity.
Courtney, the sister of series creator Chris Storer, worked in famous kitchens including Verjus in Paris and Jon & Vinny’s in Los Angeles.
Storer told Variety how she made ‘The Bear’ feel real. Storer described how her team discussed changes.
“Those are my writer conversations. “Guys, this doesn’t feel right,” with Joanna Calo and Chris. Even if it’s scripted, this doesn’t happen. I have the best team.”
“Can you explain what would happen?” It goes beyond me being the culinary thinker and saying, “You guys do it.” I’m cooking with these actors, then I come back in when they say “Cut.” Everyone, including the crew, is my friend.”
Each restaurant kitchen speaks a distinct language. Some like “Chef,” some don’t. Not everyone says “Heard.” We had to develop the kitchen culture.
Storer said she appreciates actors doing culinary activities to give authenticity to situations.
I prefer actors to act. I want them to call the chef and get pots like they were making bucatini. Chris sometimes said, “They can just mimic it this time.” No way. They need to place the steak in the oven since the weight in their palm and how your muscles react to carrying those things will change how they look holding it. I labour harder, but the product is better.”
Bear season 2 ended in June 2022.
