LAHORE: The highly awaited film “Barbie” premiered worldwide on Friday, but Punjab’s screening delayed.

The film’s “objectionable content” prompted Punjabi authorities to halt screenings.

Farrukh Mahmood, secretary of the Punjab picture Censor Board, told AFP that the picture would fully reviewed. As well as censored as needed.

After inspection and censorship, the fantasy-comedy starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken will be released.

The board did not specify “objectionable” content or why.

“Barbie” screened in Islamabad and Sindh on Friday after censored, but fans in the most populous province will have to wait.

I’ve been anticipating Barbie for months. “It doesn’t make sense to show it in Karachi or Islamabad but not Lahore,” Lahori Nousheen Saad told AFP.

“Joyland,” a Cannes winner and Pakistan’s Oscar contender for 2023, banned by the authorities in November for “clearly repugnant to the norms of decency and morality.”

In “Joyland,” a Pakistani married guy has a transsexual affair.

After a government assessment, the national censorship board cleared the picture, but Punjab banned it.
