Islamabad: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have reached an agreement to appoint Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar as the interim prime minister.

According to the sources, the government committee formed to investigate the matter will inform all other political parties of Dar’s appointment as interim prime minister.

The News reported earlier today that PML-N and PPP leaders were meeting in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The report indicated that the PML-N and PPP leaderships will likely consult on who will serve as interim prime minister. That is following the dissolution of the National Assembly at the beginning of August.

Ahsan Iqbal named Dar on TV

Ahsan Iqbal stated on the a tv program that Dar would designated caretaker prime minister if consensus on his name.

However, he stated that no decision has made in his presence regarding the appointment of an interim prime minister.

“Whatever decision made, the cabinet will informed,” Iqbal stated. As the standby agreement with the IMF must implemented. He assured that an agreement on the appointment of an interim prime minister will reached within the last week of the government’s term.

According to the minister of planning, a three-year programme must negotiated with the IMF in the future. As well as a stable government with a five-year mandate required.

Iqbal stated, “In my opinion, we should hold elections as soon as possible. So that a stable government can emerge and lead the nation out of its economic difficulties.”

Earlier this week that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had formed a five-member committee of the PML-N to consult on the selection of an interim prime minister and dissolution of the National Assembly.

In spite of the fact that the provincial assemblies of Sindh and Balochistan will also be dissolved alongside the National Assembly next month, none of the panel’s members are from outside Punjab.

Committee formed earlier

The committee composed of federal ministers Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Saad Rafiq. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Khawaja Muhammad Asif tasked with consulting with the political parties. As well as groups that make up the current administration.

With the establishment of the committee, the consultation process for the country’s immediate future administrative structure is in full swing.

The Prime Minister, as House Leader, and the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly were required by the Constitution to initiate consultations. Their failure could refer the matter to a parliamentary committee, which the NA speaker is expected to form.

In the event that the parliamentary committee fails to select a caretaker prime minister, ECP will be the ultimate authority to choose the caretaker prime minister.

Interestingly, the government has not taken political parties and organisations outside of parliament into account for such consideration. Shah Mehmood Qureshi, vice chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), recently requested that his party should consulted on upcoming elections. As well as related arrangements, claiming to be a significant stakeholder. However, the government ignored his request.

Raja Riaz Ahmad scheduled to meet with the prime minister on 1 August. He will meet PM for preliminary consultations regarding the selection of the caretaker prime minister.
