Senator Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar named as caretaker PM

Webdesk: A PM Office statement Saturday named Balochistan senator Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar caretaker prime minister.

President Arif Alvi received a summary of the decision. It is after a second round of meetings between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and National Assembly Leader Raja Riaz.

Raja Riaz told the reporters after the meeting, “We decided that the interim prime Minister would from a smaller province”.

President Dr. Arif Alvi wrote to PM Shehbaz and Raja Riaz. He reminded them to recommend a “suitable” interim premier by August 12 (Saturday).

The president wrote to PM Shehbaz and Riaz that under Article 224A. He wrote that they must propose an interim prime minister within three days after the National Assembly’s dissolution.

“As provided in Article 224 (1A) of the Constitution of Pakistan, the Prime Minister and leader of the Opposition in the outgoing National Assembly may propose a suitable person for the appointment of care-taker Prime Minister not later than 12th August,” President Alvi wrote.

The Constitution requires the parliamentary committee to choose a caretaker PM if the prime minister and NA opposition leader cannot agree on a nominee within three days.

Moreover, The premier and opposition leader must submit their candidates to the parliamentary delegation.

While, The parliamentary committee must choose the caretaker prime minister within three days. Moreover, If the committee fails to agree on a name, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would choose a caretaker prime minister from the opposition and government’s suggestions within two days.

On Friday, the premier told journalists in Islamabad that coalition partners would consulted before making a decision.
