Pakistan Army’s SSG team to rescue Battagram chairlift victims

Abbotabad: An expert team from the Pakistan Army’s Special Services Group (SSG) rescued eight persons, including six schoolchildren, from a chairlift cable that broke in Allai Tehsil in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Battagram area on Tuesday.

Army helicopters are also on scene to rescue people.

“A chairlift in Battagram broke a cable and stopped midway at 900 feet. 8 people, including 6 children, stuck “NDMA statement.

The statement stated NDMA coordinated with Provincial Disaster Management Authority.

“Pakistan Army helicopter sent for rescue operation after coordination,” it said.

The incident confirmed by Mansehra Deputy Inspector General of Police Tahir Ayub. He said a helicopter the only way to rescue the people.

Gulfaraz, a chairlift passenger, said the first wire broke at 7am, then another.

Moreover, District police officer Sonia Shamrose told that all efforts made to rescue chairlift victims.

While, Zafar Iqbal, a teacher, claimed pupils used the chairlift to get to school.

“The chairlift transports people. He stated 150 children take the chairlift to school in this location, confirming that two cable car cables broke mid-air.

Pakistan Peoples Party leader Faisal Karim Kundi has asked caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, interim Chief Minister KP Muhammad Azam Khan, and Information Minister Feroze Jamal to act immediately.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar ordered the NDMA and PDMA to “urgently ensure safe rescue and evacuation of the 8 people stuck in the chairlift” after the worrying occurrence.

“I have also directed the authorities to inspect all such private chairlifts and ensure their safety,” he said.
