ISLAMABAD: Khwaja Haris, lead counsel of former prime minister chairman Imran Khan, would appear before the Supreme Court (SC). Its to represent PTI chief in the NAB amendments case a day after leaving the party.

Haris left the PTI’s legal staff on Thursday owing to “lack of discipline” concerns.

The senior lawyer had severe reservations about appointing other lawyers to represent the former premier in scores of Islamabad High Court petitions.

After Khan convicted to three years in the Toshakhana reference, the petitioners challenged the trial court’s August 5 judgement. Since the verdict, the former premier was in Attock jail.

Khwaja Haris told on Thursday, “I directed by the court to present my final arguments in the NAB amendment case and I have to comply with the court’s order.

Haris had 19 hearings and had to present his last arguments

When asked about his departure as Khan’s lead lawyer, Haris avoided commenting on the reports. However, he claimed he would appear before the Supreme Court on August 28 for NAB law revisions.

On August 28, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umer Ata Bandial, Justice Ijazul Ahsen, and Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah will hear Imran Khan’s petition challenging the former coalition government’s amendments to the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) 1999.

On August 18, the court ordered the PTI chief’s lawyers and Makhdoom Ali Khan’s lawyers to prepare for final arguments.

Throughout the hearing, CJP Bandial noted that he would embarrassed if he did not decide the petition challenging the NAO 1999 modifications before his retirement. Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah called for a full court to hear the case.

The CJP would retire on September 16. Justice Qazi Faez Isa, the top judge, would become the next chief justice of Pakistan.

On Thursday, Sardar Latif Khosa appeared before a two-member IHC bench chaired by Chief Justice Aamir Farooq. It was to hear his appeal of his August 5 trial court conviction in the Toshakhana reference case.
