Islamabad: Today, human rights lawyer Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir was given bail in a sedition case. But she was rearrested on Monday after being released from Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail.

Islamabad police arrested the human rights activist.

Her arrest occurred at Barakahu police station in the federal capital. She arrested for an Anti-Terrorism Act case.

Mazari’s attorney stated that the police did not inform them of his arrest.

Mazari and PTM leader Ali Wazir granted bail by an Islamabad anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday in a sedition charge relating to their contentious speech against state institutions.

Imaan and Wazir granted post-arrest bail by ATC Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain on Rs30,000 surety bonds.

The two detained on August 20 and placed on physical remand for their contentious speech at the PTM’s public protest.

The Tarnol and Counter-Terrorism Department police stations filed two FIRs against Imaan and Wazir on August 19 during a PTM demonstration in the federal capital.

Both arrested for sedition, obstructing government personnel from working and harming public property.

In today’s session, Prosecutor Raja Naveed said that around 1,000 individuals attended Imaan’s contentious speech against governmental institutions.

In the address, Imaan accused government leaders of treason, although USB with the controversial speech not received.

After a three-day physical remand, Imaan and Wazir appeared before the ATC judge on August 24. The prosecutor requested an extension.

The prosecutor informed the court that Imaan Wazir’s voice matching and photogrammetry were complete.

The investigating officer informed the court Imaan gave her a paper to speak from.

“She should questioned about who gave her that paper.”

But Judge Zulqarnain stressed the decision would be based on justice alone.

Thursday saw a 14-day judicial remand for the two.
