Lahore: A major terrorist attack was thwarted near Barki Road, Lahore, following an intense exchange of gunfire between the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and suspected militants.
According to a CTD spokesperson, a suicide bomber affiliated with a banned organization was apprehended, while his accomplice managed to escape despite sustaining injuries. The operation was conducted based on intelligence reports, aiming to intercept the terrorists before they could execute their plan.
When law enforcement personnel attempted to stop them, the suspects opened fire, leading to a fierce gun battle. One terrorist was wounded but managed to flee, while the other—an intended suicide bomber—was captured.
Authorities recovered a suicide vest, safety fuse wire, and explosive materials from the arrested suspect. Senior police officials promptly arrived at the scene following the incident. Meanwhile, CTD teams launched a search operation in the surrounding areas of Barki.
The arrested terrorist has been identified as Hafiz Shams, a resident of Balochistan, with reported links to Tehrik-e-Taliban. According to CTD officials, the militants were planning a large-scale attack in Lahore.
A case has been registered, and further investigations are underway.
