“All Parties Conference in Islamabad Rescheduled for February 9th to Tackle Terrorism and Economic Challenges”
In light of the recent challenges faced by Pakistan, the government has rescheduled the All Parties Conference (APC) in Islamabad for February 9th, according to Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb. The conference, aimed at addressing important challenges faced by the country, will bring together the political and national leadership of Pakistan to discuss joint strategies to combat terrorism and other issues. The National Action Plan will also be reviewed at the meeting.
In a tweet, the Information Minister stated that the entire political and national leadership of the country has been invited to the conference. This move is seen as a significant development as tensions in the country have been rising. The invitation to attend the conference has also been extended to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its chairman, former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Despite the invitation, PTI leaders have claimed that they have not received an official invitation for the conference yet.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif decided to convene the multi-party conference last week as a response to the recent challenges faced by the country. The country has been facing an increase in terrorist activity, with a suicide bombing at a mosque in Peshawar on January 30th claiming the lives of at least 101 people, mostly police officials. At the same time, Pakistan is also facing economic difficulties as its foreign exchange reserves have declined to $3.09 billion, which some analysts believe is only enough to cover less than three weeks of imports.
The country is currently in negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a much-needed bailout program. A successful outcome with the IMF would also open up opportunities for more funding from other platforms that are waiting for a green light from the lender. The All Parties Conference serves as an opportunity for the country’s political and national leadership to come together and tackle the challenges faced by Pakistan.
