Pakistan Foreign Office confirmed that no casualties have been reported among Pakistani nationals following the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria on Monday, February 7th. The earthquake has claimed the lives of over 15,000 people so far.
The Pakistan Embassy in Turkey reported that 19 Pakistani students who were present in the earthquake-hit city of Gaziantep have been safely transported and provided accommodation in Adana. The embassy is making arrangements to fly them back to Pakistan soon.
In a show of support, a third Pakistan flight carrying rescue teams and relief assistance arrived in Adana on Wednesday. The Pakistan Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams were seen performing rescue work in the affected areas and were able to evacuate two survivors trapped under the rubble for more than 48 hours in Adyıaman, Turkey.
The Foreign Office Spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, stated that the Missions are in contact with local authorities and the Pakistani community, and are closely monitoring the situation. As the death toll continues to rise, the Pakistani embassy is doing its part in providing assistance to those affected by the disaster.
