Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah addressed the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers’ convention in Rawalpindi on Sunday. Rana Sanaullah said that the general elections should be held across the country at the same time. He also stated that his party was fully prepared for the elections and was not afraid of them.
Hours later, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) excused itself from holding consultations with President Arif Alvi. ECP had to discus elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Saying that the matter was already under judicial consideration. On Friday, the president had summoned the election commissioner for an urgent meeting to hold a consultation on the date of the poll. He also criticised the ECP’s approach to the general elections date.
Sanaullah fired a fresh salvo at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan over his “Jail Bharo Tehreek,” stating that the government’s response would be far beyond his imagination. He accused Khan of wanting to push the country towards chaos and anarchy.
The interior minister also stated that we will not imprison political workers. Only those people who wanted to create anarchy and disorder in the country would be imprisoned. Sanaullah claimed that the deposed prime minister aimed to destabilize the country. `I will not let Imran khan to create further chaos and disorder in Country, Rana Sanaullah said. He announced that only the “Imrani Gang” would be imprisoned because they were harming the nation.
Sanaullah also criticized President Arif Alvi for refusing to approve the “mini-budget” ordinance. Which prevented the government from reaching a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The government introduced the Finance (Supplementary) Bill 2023 or the “mini-budget” in the National Assembly and Senate to fulfil the prerequisites for unlocking the $1.1 billion IMF loan tranche, following the president’s advice.
The upcoming polls require unity.
Speaking on the occasion, PML-N leader and former senior vice-president Shahid Khaqan Abbasi urged for unity ahead of the elections for the National and provincial assemblies. He said that the party must decide to ensure hard work and provide the “right candidate” in constituencies.
If elections contested independently, the PML-N stalwart hoped that his party would win in Rawalpindi.
