Lahore: Albert David, the Chairman of Pakistan United Christian Movement, held a press conference at Lahore Press Club. Where he demanded an increase in the representation of minorities in parliament. Albert stated that authorities are ignoring minorities despite the increase in the total number of seats in Upper/lower houses. He emphasised that the Constitution of Pakistan grants minorities the full right of representation in Parliament. He said parliament is only place where they can raise and solve their fundamental rights.
Mr. David stressed the need for a free census to ensure the representation of minorities in proportion to their population. Furthermore, after 1985 not a single seat of minorities has been added to the National assembly despite the increase in their population.
Additionally, He demanded that the Chief Justice of Pakistan, the Election Commission, and the government ensure the constitutional right of minorities. He stated it is only possible by conducting an impartial census. Furthermore, electoral reforms are also very important as they would guarantee their representation in parliament. He reiterated that minorities have equal rights as any other Pakistani and should not be denied their due representation in the parliament.
