Islamabad: Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah announced that Islamabad police officers who baton-charged Aurat March participants had been suspended.
The interior minister promised “severe legal action” against those who “mistreated” marchers in an earlier tweet.
Sanaullah summoned the Islamabad police commander to discuss the marchers’ treatment.
Punjrush, one of the march’s organisers, said police charged at demonstrators while transgender performers were performing, “crushing” several of them.
Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman also criticized the Islamabad police’s treatment of marchers.
“The Islamabad police had no business baton-charging a tiny peaceful procession,” she tweeted when a video of a police officer assaulting a female participant surfaced.
She condemned the violence in another tweet and requested an investigation. . International Women’s Day too. “We will not allow this,” she said.

The HRCP also condemned Islamabad police force. It was also concerned about religious groups seeking to prevent women from marching.
Women have equal rights to peaceful assembly. The commission recommended the police should protect marchers, not attack peaceful protesters.
Islamabad police apologise and promise retribution.
Islamabad police claimed Inspector General Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan had noticed the incident and requested a report from the DIG operations.
The Islamabad IG also ordered authorities to secure the Aurat March and Tahaffuz Haqooq Niswan demonstration.
