LOS ANGELES: Many aspects of the Academy Awards have evolved over the years. Only the red carpet has remained constant for the past six decades. Over the years, the hues have varied, but the color has always been red. through this year.
Workers unrolled a champagne-colored carpet in front of the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Wednesday. Jimmy Kimmel, who will host the 95th Academy Awards on Sunday, presided over the event.
“I believe the choice of a champagne carpet over a red carpet demonstrates our confidence,” Kimmel said.
Creative consultants Lisa Love, a longtime contributor to Vogue, and Ral vila, the creative director for the glamorous Met Gala in New York, made the decision to change the colour.
For Love, there has always been a discrepancy between the formal black tie dress code and the fact that people arrive midafternoon to be photographed in broad daylight. With a carpet covering, they could alter this.
“We transformed a daytime event into an evening one,” Love told the Associated Press. Even though it is only 3:00, evening has arrived.
Oscar History
In 1961, the 33rd Academy Awards were held at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. Billy Wilder’s “The Apartment” won best picture, Burt Lancaster and Elizabeth Taylor won the lead acting prizes, and Hayley Mills received the “juvenile award” for “Pollyanna.”. It was the first ceremony to be broadcast on television, on ABC, and hosted by Bob Hope. In 1966, when the Oscars were first broadcast in colour, the public first saw the red carpet.
Love stated that there was no opposition to the change. They simply realised they had the liberty to disregard convention. They also tried other colours, but they appeared too dark with the tent’s cover. Love stated, “We chose this beautiful sienna and saffron colour that evokes the sunset because this is the sunset before the golden hour.”
They were also not particularly concerned about offending Oscars traditionalists.
Moreover, Love stated, “Someone will always find something wrong with something.” “This is merely levity, and I hope that people enjoy it. It does not imply that the carpet will always be champagne-colored.”
Regarding what we should name it, Love stated that “champagne” and “sand” are appropriate descriptors, but there is no reason not to default to “red carpet.” It is more of a metonym than a literal description of what everyone is walking on.
The 95th Academy Awards red carpet will open on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Eastern. The ceremony will begin at 8 p.m. and will air live on ABC.
