Webdesk: Actors Merub Ali and Asim Azhar have been in the spotlight, Since their marriage announcement. Merub was a guest on the popular Canadian-Pakistani YouTuber Shahveer Jafry’s Honest Hour Podcast on March 10. During their talk, the host asked her what she thought about husbands who cheat on their wives.
“This is just a made-up situation,” he made clear before asking. “What will you do if your future husband cheats on you? Leave him alone, hurt him so much that he can’t think straight again, or hurt him physically?” Merub replied, “I’ll just leave him. I take these things very seriously, “not having any doubts.
“So, you aren’t crazy enough?” The host asked another question. Merub said, “No!” “And if I hurt someone physically or mentally, what would make me different from that person? I will do the right thing.”
Merub also brought up how news outlets change quotes to make headlines that get people to click. “Once, I posted an Instagram Story with the caption, “My dad doesn’t like my taste in music.” The next day I saw my face in the newspaper next to my fathers, with a headline that said, ‘Merub Ali’s father is not happy with her choice’, with Asim’s description below. Like what a twist and manipulation of words. It was very hard for my parents to digest.”
She then talked about how social media can hurt people. “I want to laugh,” she said as she told a story about when her brother asked her to make a video about online trolls. “The mean things people say online are so silly that they make me laugh. I usually ignore them, especially the ones that point out such specific things as flaws, because I think those people must have too much time on their hands. Like, if you don’t like my pictures, just close them. Even I find a lot of people annoying, but I just ignore them or swipe away their online profiles.”
Merub went on to say, “I hated Selena Gomez when I was a kid because she was with Justin Bieber. If I had criticized her for no reason, I would have looked like a fool. I don’t understand why people are so mean.”
Before the podcast ended, the Sinf-e-Aahan actor talked about how she plans to be less serious this year. “This year, I’ve promised myself that I’ll take care of my mental health and put it ahead of everything else. I don’t mind if I have to waste a few years just taking care of myself. I also no longer pay attention to negative comments.”
