Islamabad: The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), the leading lawyer regulator, offered mediation to parliamentary parties.

“The Pakistan Bar Council is ready to call/arrange APC and to invite all the central leadership of parliamentary parties. APC can be called to reconcile their disputes through dialogue. APC is to hold free, fair and transparent elections to all assemblies on a mutually agreed time frame”. Said a joint statement from PBC Vice Chairman Haroonur Rashid and Chairman Executive Committee Hassan Raza Pasha.

Meanwhile, The statement said the PBC and legal fraternity believed in the supremacy of the Constitution, the rule of law, independence of the judiciary, democracy and civil power through a democratic process, and always opposed undemocratic destabilisation.

Moreover, The council advised all legislative parties to overcome their conflicts. Through negotiation and address other key public issues like inflation, the rupee’s devaluation, and unemployment.

The lawyers’ group concluded that it had always pursued these goals and ensured the country’s constitutional democracy.

Via APC, the PBC and legal community have “offered services for mediation among parliamentary parties in the past” and will continue to do so.

The council also supported civil society’s call for an informal mediator group to work with all legislative parties to begin reconciliation and reach a national consensus.

For the country’s sake, it said, all assemblies should organise free, fair, and transparent elections within a mutually agreed timeframe.
