Australian ex-soldier charged with Afghanistan war crime

Webdesk: A former Australian soldier was arrested on Monday. The arrest came under suspicion of murdering a civilian in Afghanistan, as part of a lengthy probe into war crimes.

The arrest comes more than two years after a devastating internal review. A long review concluded that Australian elite special troops unlawfully killed 39 civilians and inmates.

Australian Federal Police stated that they apprehend a 41-year-old veteran. There are charges of War-crimes against him. He may face life in prison if proven guilty.

“He allegedly murdered an Afghan man while serving with the Australian Defense Force in Afghanistan”. Police stated in a statement.

While, The allegations pertain to the 2012 shooting of a man in the southern Afghanistan province of Uruzgan.

Moreover, An enquiry conducted in 2020 uncovered claims of summary executions. Corpse count competitions, and torture by Australian forces and recommended the investigation of 19 individuals.
