Webdesk: Adnan Sami Khan became Indian in 2016. Pakistanis speculated that the move was economical.
Sami told Humans of Bombay about his criticism for moving to India. Other Pakistanis claimed, “Oh, he has chosen India because he’s making more money over there.”
Sami questioned, “Do you know my family background?” “Do you know money has never been a problem for me? He said, ” blessed to born and brought up in a very well-to-do, wealthy family.”
“Money, if at all, I have given up a lot because there’s a tremendous amount of stuff that I could have inherited from there (Pakistan) which I gave away,” he remarked.
Sami then asked why it was so hard for others to realise that he loved India and felt at home there, the sole reason for his relocation. “Over here, the love and appreciation overwhelmed me as an artist.”
Political tensions between the countries made the move significant. I don’t care about politics, yet there’s animosity between the two countries. Musician.”
Sami previously told Mashable India that it took him 18 years to become an Indian citizen. “It took me 18 years,” he said of his statelessness. Two rejections. I lost my citizenship, becoming stateless. I was stateless for 18 months. A passport merely a document, but not owned by any country and could not travel or do anything.”
Sami’s migration to India and citizenship had been discussed for years. The musician has stated that his transfer was motivated by his love for India and his artistic acclaim here.
Sami married to actor Zeba Bakhtiar, with whom he had singer Azaan Sami Khan. Azaan stayed in Pakistan and composes for films, TV shows, and independently. The musician made his acting debut in Ishq-e-Laa with Sajal Aly and Yumna Zaidi last year.
