Karachi: In response to charges of misbehaviour during the last local government elections held in 15 districts of Sindh, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) took the required steps to ensure fair and transparent elections by conducting the re-vote.
Today, there will be elections for the positions of Chairman, Vice Chairman, Member District Council, and General Members.
In 15 districts, a total of 109,687 registered voters will cast ballots, including 59,310 male and 50,337 female voters.
This action intended to address concerns and allegations of electoral irregularities in the past. In addition, the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) and the ECP have issued orders to hold the election.
15 district returning officers, 26 returning officers, and 52 assistant returning officers will assist with the administration of the local government elections. A total of 81 polling stations, comprising separate stations for men and women as well as combined stations, have been established throughout the districts.
While, There will be a total of 275 polling places for the 2018 local elections across Sindh’s 15 districts. Among these booths, 140 reserved solely for male voters. 135 for female voters, and the rest 275 are open to voters of both sexes.
Moreover, The decision to re-vote is an important step towards respecting democratic norms and ensuring electoral process transparency. Jacobabad, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Larkana. Qamber Shahdadkot, Sukkur, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Umarkot, Tharparkar, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, and Badin will be re-voting districts.
