SEOUL: Jisoo is the last member of the K-pop group Blackpink to make a solo debut. Her EP ME came out on Friday. Since their start in 2016, Blackpink has become one of the most popular girl groups in the world, breaking records like having the most YouTube subscribers of any artist.
Local news outlets said this week that the group would perform with pop star Lady Gaga at a state dinner for South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol that US Vice President Joe Biden will host in late April. The agency for Blackpink, YG Entertainment (122870.KQ), said it was looking into the offer, but the White House denied the news on Friday.
“In April, as a group, we have our shows and Coachella. We’re going to have a lot of fun.” During an online news conference, Jisoo told his fans. She said that her first record was the result of many meetings and a lot of thought. She also said that she wasn’t nervous about her first record as a solo artist.
Another Blackpink member, Jennie, put out her first solo album in 2018. Rose and Lisa both started out on their own in 2021. In October, the group started a world tour called Born Pink, which is set to last until June.
As of Thursday, YG Entertainment said that more than 1.31 million copies of Jisoo’s first album had already been pre-ordered. Guinness World Records says that the K-pop stars also became the most-streamed female band on the app Spotify earlier this month. At the time, Guinness World Records said that their songs had been played 8,880,030,0049 times, which was more than the British pop group Little Mix.
