LAHORE:
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has used up all of its energy trying to stop the Punjab elections. Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has stepped up its preparations for upcoming elections.
A PPP representative said that everything would be ready by Friday. The party said that the tickets for Lahore Urban, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Sahiwal already given out. The tickets holders for South Punjab, Lahore Rural, Faisalabad, and Sargodha would be decided by Friday.
He said that Faryal Talpur, the leader of the PPP, led the meeting to decide on the tickets through a video link.
He also said that the PPP Punjab was moving forward with its plans, regardless of what was going on in Islamabad.
But the leader of the PPP in Punjab, Hasan Murtaza, said that elections won’t held in Punjab on that date. He added, “Elections will be held at the same time all over the country to make sure they are free and fair.”
He thought that letting people vote in Punjab would cause “anarchy.” He said that the PPP was getting ready for elections, even though it had a strong opinion on the issue.
PML-N
On the other hand, PML-N leaders said that their party was not even trying to get ready for the election. According to a senior PML-N leader, the party had not heard anything about elections.
He said that all of the candidates were getting ready in their own districts, but that they weren’t doing their best because they weren’t sure they would get the party ticket.
He said that in many places, more than two people were running for the same ticket. “How could any of them go all in for an election when they don’t know if they will get on the ballot or not?” he asked.
The leader thought the elections delayed because “the PTI hasn’t decided who will run for them either.”
He thought about what people in the PML-N were saying about the elections and said, “If the elections are going to be delayed, then all this trouble is for nothing.”
