PML-N wants nationwide elections in October.

News Editor 10 April, 2023
Elections

Lahore: Ahsan Iqbal stated that general elections should be held across the country at the same time in October 2023.

The administration led by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) will end its five-year constitutional term in August of current year.

The PML-N leader said it at a ceremony in Narowal. He said that the country’s federal and provincial elections should be held at the same time.

He stated that there will be problems with early elections in Punjab. It will undermine the federation at a time when the country is experiencing a constitutional and political crisis.

He added, PTI Chairman Imran Khan has become a symbol of chaos and has led the country to catastrophe.

What is PTI’s requirement for deferring until October?

Imran Khan stated last week that he is willing to wait till October for elections. But his decision is contingent on the willingness of the PDM-led coalition government.

The former prime minister stated that if the coalition government shares a plan with him insuring that everything is in line, he may wait until October for the elections.

The PML-N desires a “level playing field.”

A day earlier, PML-N senior leader Javed Latif stated that if the party given a “level playing field”. It will agree to hold general elections once the current government’s term ends.

Latif, a senior assistant to Maryam Nawaz, stated at a press conference in Model Town that no political party wanted to dodge elections. But that a ‘fair playing ground’ for everyone before polls this year mandatory.

He went on to explain that despite being innocent. PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif had faced disqualification and legal proceedings, but it was time to ensure justice for him, who had served the country as prime minister three times and contributed to the country’s development and advancement.

According to Latif, no sou moto was taken on the PTI chairman’s cypher conspiracy, attack on national institutions, inciting institutions to violate the Constitution and law, the RTS [results transmission system] malfunctioning to support Khan, and the PTI government’s performance, which destroyed the national economy.

He stated that the bounds of justice should be the same for everyone, since no one should be dear to justice and above the law.
