ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) granted police an additional day of physical detention of Ali Amin Gandapur. The court gave remand in a case registered against him under the Anti-Terrorist Act for allegedly threatening government officials.
ATC Judge Raja Jawad Abbas ordered the Inspector General of Police in Islamabad to submit all Gandapur-related FIRs by Tuesday.
The investigating officer requested an extension of Gandapur’s physical remand by five days to allow for further investigation. However, the judge questioned the registration of the FIR against the defendant in the absence of a voice-matching test and an arrest warrant. The incident occurred on September 29, but the FIR not submitted until six months later.
The prosecutor argued that a five-day extension of Gandapur’s remand was required so that the Punjab Forensic Center in Lahore could conduct a voice matching test. Dr. Baber Awan, attorney for Gandapur, responded that the prosecution could obtain the voice sample promptly. He argued possibility of any intonation created using software.
The court granted Gandapur one additional day of physical remand and ordering the prosecution to submit his voice matching test report today (Tuesday).
The court also mandated that he undergo a pre- and post-remand medical examination by police.
