Lahore: Sheikh Rashid, the leader of the Awami Muslim League (AML), told President Dr. Arif Alvi that he should tell Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to ask the National Assembly for a vote of confidence.

In a letter, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ally said that Shehbaz’s Cabinet had lost the House’s trust. By not passing a supplementary grant that would have given the ECP the money, security, and support it needed for general elections for the Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) assemblies.

Rashid said that the NA had lost faith in the current leadership. It is because they didn’t want to follow orders. Like the recent one from the Supreme Court to use money from the Federal Consolidated Funds to pay for elections.

The letter went on to say that the Cabinet promised the highest court that it would fix the “artificially created” lack of money and give the ECP the money it needed. However, the government “deliberately” broke its promise.

The leader of the AML said that it was important for the government to have a majority in Parliament. But the premier and his Cabinet had lost trust and the majority in the NA.

Article 73 of the Constitution says that the approval of the government needed for financial measures. As well as Article 84, which explains the legislative process for supplementary and excess grants. It explain how money bills passed.

The letter said that PM Shehbaz couldn’t get the needed money by passing a supplementary budget, so Article 91(7) of the Constitution says that the president should call a sitting of the NA and get a vote of confidence.

“The PM won’t take a vote of confidence”

Marriyum Aurangzeb said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has not chosen whether or not to take the vote of confidence.

The minister of information said that there’s no debate and that there was no need for one.

She said that the people, the party, and the coalition partners all chose Shehbaz. On April 11, 2022, the National Assembly (NA) decided for him to be the leader.

Marriyum said that this “made-up rumour” is false. She also asked the media not to report news about the prime minister that hadn’t been checked out first.

On Monday, it was said that the prime minister had chosen to take the vote of confidence on April 27 and that all the necessary consultations had been done.
