Webdesk: Moana is returning for the live-action remake at Disney. But Auli’i Cravalho will not reprise her role as the title character.
The Disney icon revealed that she would not be participating in the remake. She would instead serve as an executive producer.
“Being cast as Moana at age 14 transformed my life and launched my career. In this live-action adaptation, I will not reprise my role.
“I believe it is of the utmost importance that casting accurately reflects the characters and stories we intend to tell.
Moreover, The 22-year-old continued, “I truly honoured to pass this baton on to the next young woman of Pacific Island descent in recognition of the incredible Pacific peoples, cultures, and communities that inspired her story, and I look forward to all the beautiful Pacific representation to come.”
“While, As an executive producer on the film, I cannot wait to help find the next actress to portray Moana’s courageous spirit, undeniable wit, and emotional strength,” said the actor.
