Webdesk: At Cannes’ Women in Motion Award event, Michelle Yeoh reflected on Hollywood’s development for women.
She said, “I have witnessed the shifts throughout my entire career, and I am currently witnessing the changing tides.”
Yeoh, who won a Golden Globe and SAG Award, received the Women in Motion Award.
Moreover, Leonardo DiCaprio, Isabelle Hupert, Rebel Wilson, Alfonso Cuaron, Salma Hayek, Ruben Östlund, Paul Dano, Brie Larson, Iris Knobloch, and Thierry Frémaux were among the distinguished visitors.
While, Yeoh spoke about women’s historical exclusion from important spaces and dialogues, urging change.
She said, “There is no gate, no lock, no bolt that can confine the freedom of my mind.”
Yeoh asserted that women’s ideas and passion may break obstacles.
She also recognised for iconic roles as Wai Lin from Tomorrow Never Dies, Yu Shu Lien from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and Evelyn Wang from Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Yeoh concluded her acceptance speech by looking ahead to women’s cinematic potential.
“We have a long way to go before achieving true equality,” she continued.
