NAB chairman to avoid scandals, follow laws.

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Lieutenant General (retd) Nazir Ahmed said the anti-corruption watchdog will stay apolitical and follow the law to prevent controversy.

He said NAB lost focus and reputation due to unnecessary controversies.

“My foremost effort will be to restore the image of NAB as a fair, just and unbiased organization”. He said during a ceremony at NAB Rawalpindi to distribute compensation checks to scam victims.

The NAB chief voiced concern over the country’s decreasing Global Corruption Perception Index and urged collaboration to fight corruption.

He thanked the affected for their patience while waiting for the looted sum to recovered. He promised to resolve such situations as quickly as possible. Chairman also commended the officers for recovering the looted money.

He reminded NAB officers and staff that the anti-graft watchdog was fair and unbiased and had no favourites.

“Treat all accused with courtesy and civility,” he said.

The NAB chairman responded to employee questions by saying that early issue resolution done to make the workplace as comfortable as possible for employees, particularly women. He added that rotation policy would followed.

In his welcome remarks at the occasion, NAB Rawalpindi Director General Mirza Irfan Baig said that his office had collected Rs3.5 billion in five significant cases of fooling the public, of which Rs27 million was being distributed today.

He said the recoveries included Rs 130 million in false Sindh Tractors Scheme accounts given to the provincial government, Rs500 million from Askaria Town Housing Scheme, Rs1.9 billion from the National House Building Development Corporation scam, and others.
