LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ex-leader Jahangir Khan Tareen has decided to start a new national-level political party, sources said Geo News on Friday.

Sources said PTI leaders dissatisfied with the party will join the new setup. Other political families from Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Muzzafargarh, Lodhran, and Multan, anticipated to support Tareen.

According to sources, many “important leaders” from Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan have called the former PTI leader.

Sources said Tareen will be party patron-in-chief.

Tareen background

In 2017, the Supreme Court barred Tareen from politics for being “dishonest” on a petition submitted by PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi.

While, Abbasi asked the Supreme Court to disqualify Khan and Tareen.

After the 2018 elections, Tareen helped PTI recruit independent legislators despite his disqualification. His efforts helped Khan win the 2018 prime ministership.

Moreover, After taking power, Tareen and Aleem Khan’s ties with the PTI soured.

The former prime minister explained his disputes with both leaders in May 2022, saying they were seeking “illegal benefits from him.”

Khan said in a podcast that he and both leaders fell out because he ignored their requests.

Imran Khan claimed, “Aleem Khan expected me to legalise his 300-acre land near Ravi.”

Khan remarked, “Tareen stood with the biggest dacoits in the country.” When I authorised a sugar scandal investigation, Tareen and I disagreed.”

Aleem and Tareen remained quiet after being sidelined. But the PDM no-confidence motion against Imran Khan in April last year brought them back into the spotlight. Khan lost his premiership after the move.

During the no-confidence motion, PTI dissidents supported Tareen. Raja Riaz is one.

Last year, Tareen, rumoured to create a new party.

Aleem, Tareen, and other PTI dissidents announced a new party in January.

In March, the splinter organisation “Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Nazriyati (PTIN) or Haqeeqi Tehreek-e-Insaaf (HTI)” announced to fight the elections.

The Jahangir Khan Tareen (JKT) Group made a suggestion at an Iftar dinner attended by Raja Riaz and Awn Chaudhry and other dissident PTI leaders.

After the PTI crackdown after Imran Khan’s incarceration on May 9, numerous leaders left the party.

Rao Yasir, former PTI Multan district Youth Wing president, founded PTI Haqiqi a day earlier.
