KARACHI: The Sindh Wildlife Department hauled 13 monkeys before Karachi’s municipal court, but a native breed baby monkey escaped Thursday.

During a passenger bus check in Karachi from Charsadda, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, department officers spotted 14 newborn monkeys.

Two people who brought the monkeys on the bus were arrested for violating provincial wildlife laws after illegally capturing them from Charsadda jungles.

They shown the monkeys in court.

The defendants must provide the monkey infants to the zoo after Additional Sessions judge Shahid Ali Memon fined them Rs100,000. The court ordered the additional director to keep the 14 young monkeys in a safe, natural, and legal environment.

Game Officer Ashfaq Ali Memon must work with the wildlife department to protect newborn monkeys and report to the court on August 7.

According to department officials, these monkeys confined in wooden mango crates. One monkey escaped the little box when wood removed for ventilation.

The wildlife department reported the tiny infant monkey sat on slender tree branches. He was too little and swift to grab, they said.

Friday’s rescue mission to catch the young monkey at the city court resumed. The department is trying to net the young monkey since it is life-threatening and cannot be anaesthetized.

“They rescued by a Sindh Wildlife Department team at the Rangers check post on the M9 Motorway,” officials added.

In Punjab’s Chunian Tehsil, monkeys escaped Changa Manga National Park. One caught after 33 hours, while the other searched for.

The monkey climbed a cell phone tower and jumped on other roofs.
