Gujrat/Webdesk: In what appears to be a ‘inhumane act,’ a groom in the Indian state of Gujarat married his bride’s younger sister after she died of cardiac arrest during the wedding ceremony.
On Monday, Times Now reported that the incident occurred in front of a temple in the city of Bhavnagar.
According to the report, the bride Hetal became ill and fainted while performing wedding ceremonies alongside the groom Vishal.
She was rushed to the hospital, where her death was confirmed.
However, the family decided to proceed with the wedding festivities and suggested that the groom marry the younger sister.
Reportedly, the bride’s body was stored in a mortuary until the wedding took place.
Laxmbhai Rathore, the city’s corporator, termed the incident “very sad” and stated that members of the community persuaded the family to set an example and not send the bridegroom “empty-handed” despite the fact that the family of the bride was devastated by the death of their daughter.
