Rawalpindi: General Michael Erik Kurilla, the head of US Central Command (Centcom), met with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir on Monday to talk about the security situation in the area.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that this happened when the top US military officer met with COAS Munir at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
Gen. Kurilla recognised and praised the Pakistan Army’s successes in the fight against terrorism. As well as country’s ongoing efforts to bring peace and security to the region.
During the meeting, things of common interest and ways to work together on defence talked about.
The ISPR said that both sides reaffirmed their desire to improve bilateral ties in all areas.
Pakistan and the US have both asked war-torn Afghanistan to make sure that terrorists don’t use its land. This meeting is taking place at the same time.
Last week, the US told the Afghan Taliban again that they need to make sure their country isn’t used for terrorist acts. Pakistan accuses the neighbouring country of hiding the hardline Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
During a press conference, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, “Its up to the Taliban to make sure that Afghanistan not used as a safe haven for terrorists.”
The top leaders of the Pakistan Army have said that the fact that terrorists from the banned TTP and other groups like them have safe havens and freedom to act in Afghanistan is one of the main things that makes Islamabad less safe.
