SC relieves Imran Khan in Quetta lawyer’s murder case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) barred the police from arresting former prime minister Imran Khan till August 9. It is in the Quetta murder of eminent lawyer Abdul Razzaq Shar.

The SC is considering a plea against the former prime minister’s nomination in the June Quetta shooting case.

On June 6, three motorcycle riders shot Advocate Shar on his route to the Balochistan High Court (BHC).

On the allegation of the dead lawyer’s son, Advocate Siraj Ahmed, Khan and others were charged with murder, ATA, and other offences in Quetta.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) Ataullah Tarar said the PTI chairman was “directly responsible” for the murder. He said Shar was pleading a treason case against Imran under Article 6 of the Constitution.

Justices Yahya Afridi, Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, and Mussarat Hilali ordered Khan to appear in court on August 9.

The PTI chief appeared in court at the start of the proceedings.

However, the complainant’s lawyer’s arguments were absent.

The Balochistan advocate general asked the court to force the former prime minister to appear before the investigation officer (IO).

Justice Naqvi asked why the PTI head had to join the probe.

Justice Afridi then ordered the government lawyer to explain Khan’s inclusion in the investigations to the court before the complainant’s lawyer at the next hearing.

At the complainant’s request, the court deferred until August 9.

Khan petitioned the SC to invalidate the FIR that named him in the murder of attorney Shar. He requested bail and overturned the Balochistan High Court’s (BHC) rejection of a similar appeal.
