Lahore: In order to stop sexual abuse of children in the province of Punjab, the government has chosen to teach children in schools all over the province, including Lahore, about sexual abuse.

The choice made because of the rise in violence against children.

The Department of School Education told educational leaders in all areas about the instructions.

Punjab starts a project to teach students about child sexual abuse
The notice said that students need to made aware of this problem. Teachers and school heads should give talks to stop violence against children.

The notice from the department said that children will taught how to avoid strange people and sexual abuse, and that students in schools across the province will be asked for information about violence against children.

More children being sexually abused

As the number of cases of sexual abuse of children goes up, the Punjab home department said earlier this month that more boys than girls are victims of these crimes.

A report on the number of these cases from January to June 15, 2023. It showed that 1,390 cases of child abuse reported in the province in less than six months. This was already a scary number, but new information made it even worse.

According to the study, boys made up about 69% (959) of the reported cases. While girls made up about 31% (431) of the cases.

Even more troubling were the details about who did it.

The report also said that of those tried, 55% friends of the victims, 13% family members, and 32% strangers.

Regarding the number of child abuse cases in each city, the report said that 220 rape cases recorded in Gujranwala. This was the most of any city in Punjab.

At 69 and 89, respectively, Rawalpindi and Lahore had the fewest rapes.

Also, DG Khan reported 199 cases, while Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal, and Sargodha each reported 186, 140, 129, 128, 127, and 103, respectively.
