Webdesk: On its second day of military drills near Taiwan, the Chinese military simulated precise strikes against Taiwan. Reuters said, It is in response to President Tsai Ing-meeting wen’s with US officials despite warnings.
Taiwan’s defence ministry reported “multiple air force sorties” and “monitoring China’s missile forces.”
Chinese military training included tactical manoeuvres.
CCTV reported that the military has practised combined precision strikes on important Taiwan Island and surrounding waters targets.
“Under the unified command of the theatre joint operations command centre, multiple types of units carried out simulated joint precision strikes on key targets on Taiwan island and the surrounding sea areas, and continue to maintain an offensive posture around the island,” it claimed.
CCTV reported that the PLA’s Eastern Theater Command oversaw “United Sharp Sword” a military exercise.
On Sunday, the Taiwanese defence ministry recorded 58 Chinese army warplanes over the island’s strait, 31 of which crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s air defence identification zone.
The government also reported nine PLA navy warships.
“Regarding the movements of the Chinese communists’ Rocket Force, the nation’s military also has a close grasp through the joint intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance system, and air defence forces remain on high alert,” the ministry stated.
Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen returned home on Saturday as China began its military exercises.
Despite Chinese concerns, she met with US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
China called the drills “a serious warning against the Taiwan separatist forces’ collusion with external forces, and a necessary move to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
China, which claims Taiwan, has warned US state lawmakers and other state authorities repeatedly.
Beijing reacted similarly to the drills after US Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan last year. China missiles over Taiwan raised escalation concerns.
