Cop accompanying Bannu polio team killed

Bannu: Suspected terrorists shot and killed a policeman escorting polio vaccinators in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has attacked polio personnel giving children vital drops.

Miryan Police Station handled the incident, police said.

The murdered police officer Kamran Khan assigned to protect polio health professionals on kid vaccination duties.

The attackers fled after Inccident. While, the cop’s body carried to a hospital for autopsy and then to the police lines for funeral prayer.

Officials, relatives, and people from various backgrounds attended the funeral prayer.

The martyred cop buried in Lalozai Surani village’s ancient graveyard.

Moreover, RPO Qasim Ali Khan, DPO Iftikhar Shah, and SP Investigation Mujeeb-ur-Rehman inspected the scene. He investigated the attack to find the terrorists.

While, The attack comes a month after two police officers guarding the polio vaccination team in a Quetta neighbourhood killed on August 1.

As the government fights to eradicate polio, tribal communities in KP and Balochistan have resisted government efforts.

While, Countless attacks on anti-polio virus vaccination teams have killed policemen and polio workers, discouraging efforts to eradicate the incurable disease.

In filthy and underserved communities, the polio virus, which invades the neurological system and causes irreversible paralysis within hours, spreads swiftly among children.

Vaccination is the only way to avoid the disease, but conservative villagers and radicals in Pakistan have opposed it, claiming it is a Western plot to sterilise Muslim youngsters or a cover for Western spies.

While, This month, Bannu reported Pakistan’s final polio case. The second Bannu case this year.

Only Pakistan and Afghanistan have not eradicated the illness.
