ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, the federal government removed Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muhammad Saeed Wazir after allegations that the territory’s police were “protecting” Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan while law enforcement officials attempted to arrest him at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore.

The Establishment Division issued a notification confirming Wazir’s removal and instructing the former IG to report to the division.

Dar Ali Khattak. A grade 20 police officer from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), took Wazir’s place, according to a second notice from the division.

Sources said, Government published the notice of the new GB IG’s appointment to recall the police force from Zaman Park.

According to them, the federal government fired Wazir for failing to recall the force.

During an operation to capture Imran Khan on Tuesday, members of the Punjab Police and the GB Police met face to face.

A large police detachment encircled the former prime minister’s mansion in Zaman Park in order to arrest him in the Toshakana case.

During scuffles between PTI workers and law enforcement agencies, a police party reached at the gate of Khan’s Lahore residence. When they reach there, they came face to face with GB police. Allegedly GB police was providing security for the former prime minister.

The Punjab Police were forced to abort their plan and leave the PTI leader’s residence after the GB police threatened them with firearms.
