Webdesk: Monday, an attacker stabbed a security guard to death in front of Brazil’s embassy in Tunis. The attacker then shot and taken into custody.
The guard hurt while asking the attacker why he was near the embassy’s fence. AFP says that security troops eventually caught the attacker.
The Tunisian Ministry of the Interior said that this was a crime that had nothing to do with terrorism. The person who did it had mental problems. The man, whos taken to the hospital for treatment, has not been named by the police.
Since the 2011 protest that got rid of dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali and started the Arab Spring, jihadists have killed many people in Tunisia in a number of attacks.
In the last few years, the Tunisian government has made a lot of progress against dangerous extremist groups. But last month, there was a mass killing on the Tunisian resort island of Djerba. A police officer killed three other officers and two Jewish worshippers, most of whom outside a synagogue, before shot dead by other police officers.
Even in countries that have made progress in the fight against terrorism, this shows how important it is to keep security measures in place and stay alert.
