Lahore: Imran Khan, chairman of the PTI, cancelled his party’s election rally in Lahore. On Sunday, after the Punjab caretaker administration implemented Section 144 in the provincial capital, he postponed it.
The PTI head scheduled last night a new gathering for today in Lahore. Ik accounced just days after the interim government suppressed the party’s March 8 election event.
Afterwards, the PTI petitioned the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the courts in opposition to the move by the interim administration, arguing that Section 144 should be declared null and illegal.
However, the PTI leader ultimately cancelled the gathering, urging his supporters to “not fall into this trap.”
“Again, it appears that Section 144 has been illegally enforced just on the PTI election campaign. All other public activities continue in Lahore,” he tweeted.
Former prime minister asserted that police encircled Zaman Park only with containers.
“Obviously, as on March 8, the Punjab chief minister and police want to foment conflicts in order to file more bogus FIRs against the PTI leadership and workers and use this as an excuse to delay elections.
“Elections have been scheduled, therefore how can Section 144 be applied to political activity? I am warning all PTI employees to avoid this trap. We have thus postponed the gathering until tomorrow,” he continued.
“But, I cannot let any injuries to my workers, the general public, or my police in order for these fascists to file more FIRs against us and find an excuse to avoid the elections,” he added as he posted a video of the people gathered outside Zaman Park.
