President Biden sent his condolences to the renowned singer’s family in a White House statement.
Tina Turner was born in Tennessee to a farmer. She sung in the church choir as a child before becoming one of the most popular recording artists.
The statement noted that “she was the only woman to win in the pop, rock, and R&B categories. A signal of her versatility, creativity, and broad appeal.”
“Millions attended her concerts.” Her high-energy dances were famous. Her singles like Proud Mary, The Best, and What’s Love Got to Do with It are still loved. As well as sung loudly by generations of admirers.
Tina was a once-in-a-generation artist who transformed American music. Overcoming tragedy and abuse, she forged a career for the ages and a life and legacy all her own.”
Biden concluded, “Jill and I send our love and prayers to her husband Erwin, the rest of the Turner family, and fans around the world who are mourning today for the woman they agree was ‘simply the best.’”
Tina Turner, who has lived in Switzerland since 1994 with her husband, German actor and music producer Erwin Bach, “died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home,” her spokesperson said.
