India: Intent on establishing “good, neighbourly ties” with Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Indian Foreign Office stated it wants cordial relations with Pakistan. It is in response to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent comments to hold discussions with neighbouring countries.

Indian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said India wants good, neighbourly relations with Pakistan.

He added that such relationships should created in a safe, nonviolent setting.

“We have seen the reports regarding the comments of Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif”. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson stated during his weekly news briefing. “But ‘hostility’-free environments are essential,” he remarked.

At the Pakistan Minerals Summit opening ceremony in Islamabad a few days ago, PM Shehbaz remarked, “We are also ready to talk to the neighbouring countries for nation-building provided that the neighbouring countries also discuss serious issues.”

Since wars are no longer an option, the two countries could not become key neighbours until fundamental issues resolved via peaceful and meaningful conversation.

Foreign dignitaries and COAS General Asim Munir attended. Some nations applauded Pakistan’s openness to talk to its neighbour.

The US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said, “As we have been saying for a long time, the United States supports and will continue to support direct dialogue between Pakistan and India.”

For several years, only the charge d’affaires at Pakistan and India’s high commissions have performed the tasks of high commissioners due to low diplomatic relations.

When India abolished Jammu and Kashmir’s special status in August 2019, ties between the two countries worsened.

Pakistan ended trade with India and removed Indian high commissioner Ajay Bisaria. India followed.
