Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Ishaq Dar on Monday tabled a bill for general elections in Punjab and KP. It is only hours before the Supreme Court’s deadline for disbursing Rs21 billion to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

In its April 4 judgement. The Supreme Court ordered the federal government to release and give ECP Rs21 billion by April 10 for polling.
Moreover, The finance minister said the parliament must determine whether to release ECP funding while submitting the bill.
The cabinet addressed the Supreme Court’s April 4 ruling on the election body’s Rs21 billion release by April 10 the day before (today).

The resolution asked the government not to enforce the three-order member’s to hold Punjab Assembly elections on May 14, calling it unconstitutional and illegal.

Sunday, the federal cabinet ordered the finance minister to provide a summary for Parliament on elections fund disbursement.
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar informed the cabinet on the legal and constitutional elements of the Supreme Court directions and ECP funding on Sunday.
“Tomorrow will decide the future plan of action,” the statement said.
The Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill, 2023, which President Arif Alvi returned unsigned, will be discussed at the joint session of Parliament today at 4pm.
While, The cabinet unanimously agreed that the president was abusing his constitutional powers.
The prime minister noted that the president was acting like a PTI employee and serving party objectives.
