Islamabad: A local court in Islamabad stayed Imran Khan’s non-bailable arrest order. Which were in the judge-threatening case until Friday, giving the former prime minister some reprieve.
Wednesday’s Judicial Magistrate Malik Aman arrest warrant.
After one of his close aides. Shahbaz Gill, granted bail in a sedition case last year. Khan allegedly threatened police and a female judge in a speech.
After his April 2018 expulsion in a no-confidence vote by a united opposition led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The cricketer-turned-politician plagued by legal issues.
The statute disqualifies convicted politicians for five years.
Khan’s lawyers Ali Bukhari and Faisal Chaudhry appeared before Additional Sessions Judge Sikandar Khan at a federal capital district and sessions court hearing.
Chaudhry argued that the judicial magistrate’s non-bailable arrest warrants were “illegal” because he overlooked portions of the additional sessions court judge’s explicit ruling.
Bukhari maintained that a bailable warrant must be issued before a non-bailable warrant.
He read the order suspending the former premier’s Toshakhana arrest warrant.
He warned Khan that his court attendance was perilous due to an assassination attempt on the PTI chairman and the government’s withdrawal of security.
Bukhari added that Khan wanted a judicial process, not acquittal.
The judge issued notices and delayed the non-bailable arrest warrant until tomorrow.
