LAHORE: In a historic move, Sabahat Rizvi was elected as the first woman to serve as secretary of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) since the organization’s founding.
After receiving 4,310 votes in the Saturday election of the LHC Bar Association, Rizvi was chosen as the organization’s first female secretary.
The majority of attorneys including Asma Jahangir’s AGHS Legal Aid Cell Team sided with Rizvi.
Rabia Bajwa, another female candidate, received 3,590 votes to win the vice-presidential position.
In the meantime, Hamid Khan’s Professional Group defeated an independent group to claim the presidency. In contrast to Lehrasib Gondal, who received just 3,372 votes, Ishtiaq A Khan won the presidency with 7,293 votes.
Muhammad Shahrukh Shahbaz Warraich won the job of finance secretary with 7,109 votes.
There were 26,043 people who were registered to vote in total, of which 24,271 were men and 1,772 were attorneys. 10,576 voters actually used their right to vote.
