LAHORE – The Lahore High Court has reserved judgement on a petition filed by former prime minister Imran Khan. Ik filed petition challenging PEMRA’s ruling prohibiting local media outlets from airing his remarks.

Accordingly, Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza will announce the decision on the appeal.

Imran Khan, head of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, contested the disputed directives of the media watchdog regarding the broadcasting of his live and recorded addresses earlier this week. Khan’s legal counsel argued in the petition that the speech prohibition violated the Constitution’s guarantees of fundamental rights. These restrictions caused disorder and political unrest in the county.

Moreover, The media regulator prohibited the transmission of the populist leader’s speeches and press conferences, accusing him of verbally attacking state institutions and spreading hate speech.

This is the third time PEMRA has imposed a ban on TV broadcasters from showing the PTI chief’s speeches.
