DI Khan: Gomal University in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday outlawed mixed student gatherings and coupling (male and female) on its grounds in an effort to prevent any “untoward incident.”

“It is notified for all the concerned that gathering/coupling (Male & Female) is totally Banned in any ground, roads, etc. beyond the premises of department,” reads a notice from the university.

The university also issued instructions to “female students” to exercise caution and restraint in their departments’ common areas and in their classrooms.

The varsity issued a warning that those students who disobeyed the rules would face strict punishment.

The decision would help create a better and safer environment for female students, according to the university administration.

“Rs 5,000 fine for music listening”
It is important to note that the university last year fined two students from the Institute of Computing and Information Technology (ICIT) Department Rs 5,000 for listening to music during class.

The two students were allegedly using a Bluetooth speaker to play music in a university classroom, according to the chairman of the ICIT Department at the time.

Their actions “disturbed the classes currently taking place in the department,” he had added.

The chairman had stated that “both students were warned repeatedly to stop [the music] and were fined when they did not heed the requests.”
